Titanium Continues to Demonstrate Its Value in Seawater Service, Especially Desalination
The technical case for titanium's application to seawater service was well established in the early 1970's and performance of titanium over the last 40 years has validated the technical case. Widespread use of titanium for process plant application has grown significantly over the last 40 years in spite of comparative cost with competing alloys. This challenge began to reverse in the early 2000s as global expansion of titanium production accelerated and the cost for competing alloys continued to rise.

Titanium Safety Committee Seeks To Develop Fresh Data To Help Illuminate Safety Standards
The Board of Directors of the International Titanium Association (ITA) has approved a proposal by the ITA Safety Committee to proceed with a project to create data to determine whether there should be further updating of key safety standards related to the flammability of titanium, in order to more accurately reflect the rapidly changing types of products and manufacturing technologies being developed by the titanium industry.

Effort by ITA’s Industrial Sub Group Looks to Remove Restrictions on Grade 12 Titanium to Expand Applications
International Titanium Association’s Industrial Applications committee has achieved a significant first step in a project to remove restrictions on the use of Grade 12 titanium on the NACE MRO 175 standard, which is for the petroleum and natural gas industries regarding the use and performance of industrial materials in a corrosive, hydrogen-sulfide work environment. The hope is that removing certain restrictions will open up significant business opportunities for the titanium alloy.
